I have a friend who is having issues with his navigation system and the manufacturer is less than helpful. In fact, they are downright hostile. So I have realized that if you want reliable navigation, buy a Garmin/TomTom or mobile GPS.
In the link above you can find research and facts like people are less happy with their navigation systems than ever before. When people are used to mobile phone navigation, using a car system is difficult and dangerous. This is what I have seen first hand with different car navigation systems.
- Not knowing where they are at. Can’t find themselves on a map. This happens in every car. It is embarrassing and ridiculous. Why can’t a car do what a small iPhone can?

Taking you down one way streets the wrong way. No excuse for this. If there is a question on the direction of a route, it should find another route.- Rerouting when told not to reroute. No car should reroute you when you have told it not to reroute. It shouldn’t ask you multiple times to reroute. And if you tell it multiple times to not reroute, it shouldn’t reroute you.
- Rebooting while you are backing up, driving, or listening to music streamed from your iPhone. No other car navigation system rebooted for me with the same phone. No other system.
- Showing you symbols that the company says don’t exist. I asked what a symbol said to customer service and they couldn’t tell me. They asked the company and the company said that symbol didn’t exist. Don’t tell a customer that they don’t know what they saw. I sat in traffic waiting trying to figure out what the symbol meant.
When you treat your customers as beta testers they will rebel and not buy your product. It is simple, don’t treat your customers as garbage and you will keep them.
